Three trucks carrying dangerous chemicals were stopped by police yesterday afternoon when they tried to drive through the Outer Ring Tunnel, from where they are banned.

They are owned by Shanghai Huaxin Petroleum Logistics Co, Shanghai Zhongyue Logistics Co and Shanghai Xunguang Logistics Co.

The authorities declined to say what chemicals they were carrying.

A number of companies were each fined 50,000 yuan (US$8,100) last year for similar offences, said the Shanghai Work Safety Monitoring Administration.

Companies transporting dangerous chemicals into areas where they are banned without approval face fines of up to 100,000 yuan.
